Sept. 7, 2016 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad has announced its captains for the 2017 season. Seniors Maddy Fisher (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron), Jenny Schwalje (Setauket, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Kate Snouffer (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) as well as junior Sarah Cheney (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) were selected to lead the squad during the upcoming year.
"This group represents the full field," said Georgetown Head Coach Ricky Fried. "Each captain brings something different to the table with their leadership style. This will make them an incredibly effective unit both on and off the field."
Fisher was a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree in 2015, and was the Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year as a freshman. The goalkeeper has appeared in 54 career games with 47 starts, and tallied 235 saves in her time on the Hilltop.
Schwalje worked her way into the lineup in 2016 starting all 17 games on defense. She has appeared in 37 career games with 25 starts to her credit.
Snouffer has battled through injury to move into the lineup. She missed her entire sophomore season due to injury, but returned to appear in 11 games last year with three goals and four assists to her credit for a total of eight points.
Cheney is the lone junior among the captains. She saw significant action as a sophomore playing in 15 games in the midfield tallying one assist. In her career, she has appeared in 19 games on the Hilltop.
The Hoyas finished the 2016 season with a mark of 6-11 overall and 4-3 in conference play, which earned a BIG EAST Championship berth. The squad graduated eight seniors and one graduate student, but returns two of its top three scorers in 2017.
The student-athletes have just returned to campus and will begin fall play in the coming weeks.
