Jan. 10, 2017 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's lacrosse senior Michael Mayer (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) was tabbed an Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention Preseason All-American for the second-consecutive season, as announced on Tuesday.
Mayer started all 14 games for the Hoyas in 2016 and will once again anchor the close defense in 2017. He collected 22 ground balls as a junior, including three games with at least three, and was credited with a pair of caused turnovers.
Named by Inside Lacrosse as a Preseason Honorable Mention All-American in 2016 as well, Mayer was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection as a sophomore in 2015. He leads all returning players with 23 caused turnovers in his career and has hauled in 69 grounds balls during his time on the Hilltop.
Georgetown opens the 2017 season on the road at High Point on Tuesday, Feb. 14. The Hoyas play a strong schedule that features seven games against teams that made the 2016 NCAA Championships.
