WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving won 24 of 26 total events to easily sweep American University on Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at McCarthy Pool. The Hoya women cruised to a 151-83 victory, while the men won, 141-78. Georgetown celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, honoring its 11 seniors and their parents with a mid-meet ceremony on the pool deck.
On the women's side, eight different Hoyas earned individual victories including two apiece from Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, and Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland), in the 1- and 3-meter dives.
Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) set a pool record in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 56.84. Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) also set a new mark for McCarthy Pool with a 1:05.58 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The men's squad also saw eight individuals win their respective events, including two victories for both Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C./Fort Mill), in the 200- and 100-yard freestyle, and Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) in the 1- and 3-meter dives.
The Hoyas will close out the home schedule of the 2016-17 season on Monday, January 16 when Rider University visits McCarthy Pool for a 1 p.m. meet.
