Post-game Quotes

Head Coach John Thompson III

On Georgetown missing open shots…
That was part of the equation but it's not quite as simple as that. Without a doubt if you go back and look, I feel like we missed 10 layups and some other charges were called, but I thought Cartwright played a great game and he controlled the game. I think we got a little discouraged when a few offensive possessions didn't go our way. We ended up giving them easier looks than we're used to giving people. Our field goal percentage defense is usually pretty good but I felt like they got easy looks today. We got frustrated and our offense was so stagnant. They did a good job. Marcus played well up there and they did a good job of defending him this time.

On Providence's 14-3 run to end first half…
We fight, we scrap back and I forget what they were up, but I think we cut it to four and then we had bad offensive possessions, poor decisions, poor execution. We have to go back. We have some time here. We've lost some games, but not like that. We've been in every one, fighting and scrapping. Today we let one end of the court affect the other. We have to go back to campus and everyone has to get back, that's the best way to put it. We're frustrated on one end and it led to lapses on the other end. Cartwright had a lot to do with that.

On not shooting well…
Missing open shots and easy shots was part of the equation, but it's not that simple. Rodney (Pryor) said it. We played slow today. Everything was slow. We weren't running, we weren't moving, we weren't cutting. Every person who touched the ball held it, held it, held it and threw it to the next person who held it. If you make a few open shots that our guys normally make, is it a different game? If you make your foul shots, is it a different game? Yes, but it's not that simple.

On providence Flex:
They went the to flex a few times but it was the ball screen action we didn't defend the way that we needed to.

On Offense missing open shots effecting the game:
We had a lot of open shots that we normally make, I think we have to get into our stuff quicker I think sometimes when we lag into our offense that's the reason we miss those open shots because we're not ready to shoot it.

Providence Head Coach Ed Cooley

Overall thoughts on the game…
This was our most complete game of the season, both offensively and defensive. I thought that Kyron [Cartwright] controlled the game with his speed, tenacity and great leadership. We made timely shots and defensively we were pretty tough. I'm proud of the group's grit, proud of the teamwork they've shown, and one of the most spirited efforts we've shown in league play. We played really well. It's probably the best we've played all season.

On playing on MLK Day…
I don't think I'd be in the seat I'm in without his toughness, his vision and his tenacity to make change in the world.

On playing Georgetown twice early in league play…
Personally I'm not a fan of it. We haven't played but three or four teams in the league, and this is the second time around. I prefer to prepare, and try to play everyone once, and then have a second go-around.

Kyron Cartwright

On his speed affecting the game:
I don't know about it being as much as an advantage but coach keep telling us to play fast and we play pretty well when I'm playing fast as long as I'm under control.

On rebounding:
I'm barely six feet tall. I'm surprised that I got the other nine rebounds
