WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team was swept in a tight dual meet at Drexel University on Saturday afternoon. The Hoya women fell to the Dragons, 166-126, while the men's squad lost, 160-113. The meet took place at Drexel's Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) paced the Georgetown women's side with individual victories in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles.
Jesse Gibson (Norman, Okla./Norman) and Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) led the Hoya men with wins in the 50-yard freestile and 100-yard butterfly, respectively. Vanin won the butterfly in a time of 52.20, just outstretching teammate Justin Summers by .08 seconds.
Georgetown will close out its regular season on Saturday, February 11 when it travels to face Providence in a meet that starts at 10 a.m. It will be GU's final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championships, February 22-25 in Long Island, N.Y.
