Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey team (7-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) shut out LIU Brooklyn (1-11) on Sunday afternoon, 9-0. Three out of the six Georgetown scorers contributed two goals each today. The Hoyas scored five of their nine goals today in the first half. Georgetown has not scored this many goals since 1997, when they scored nine goals against Davidson.

"As a staff, we were proud of our group's ability to be adaptable today," said Head Coach Shannon Soares. "We asked them to set the tone early and they answered that challenge well, scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the match. Today was a total team effort. We are excited to get back to work on Tuesday in preparation for a very talented Liberty squad who we face Friday at home."

Freshman Ali Cronin (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) scored the first goal of the game within the first minute of play. She was assisted by freshman Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur). Three minutes later, sophomore Lindsay Getz (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) added a point to the board with an assist from Anna Farley (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air). The Hoyas could not be stopped after Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) scored the third goal of the first 10 minutes of the game. Masiello was assisted by Cronin. This was Masiello's third goal of the season.

Sophomore Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) advanced the score to 4-0 at 17:51 with a shot off of a penalty corner, assisted by Megan Parsons (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria). Less than two minutes later, Getz scored her second goal of the game, sixth of the season, with help from Katie Maransky (Blue Bell, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph's Academy).

The Hoyas outshot the Blackbirds, 13-3, in the first half and took five penalty corners. LIU Brooklyn would never find a rhythm as the Hoyas played strong defense throughout the entire game.

Five minutes into the second half, Osborne scored her first goal of the game off of a penalty corner. Her eighth goal of the season was assisted by Cronin and Maransky, their second assists of the game each. Minutes later, Osborne scored her second goal of the game with another assist from Parsons. The Hoyas held the 7-0 lead, limiting the Blackbirds' shot attempts.

Cronin scored her second goal of the game, fourth of the season, at 48:36 with an assist from Masiello, her fifth of the season. Georgetown had seven more shots until Farley tallied the final goal of the game. This was Farley's third goal of the season.

The Blue & Gray played aggressively throughout the entire game and outshot LIU Brooklyn 27-4, while taking nine penalty corners to the Blackbirds' two.
