Final Stats

WASHINGTON - It was a close match for the Georgetown and Sacred Heart field hockey teams, but the Hoyas came out with the 3-2 win. Freshman Anna Farley's (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) game winner in overtime advanced GU to 8-9 overall.

The score remained 0-0 for most of the first half until Sacred Heart's Colleen McAninley got the show started with less than 10 minutes left to play. The Hoyas bounced back and evened the score, 1-1, with no time left in the first half. Senior Megan Parsons (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria) scored her second goal this season off of a penalty corner, assisted by Farley. It was Farley's sixth assist this season.

Four minutes into the second half, Sacred Heart took the lead again when Makenna Crawford found an opportunity within the circle to shoot. However, Georgetown took the lead again with 10 minutes left. Freshman Jax van der Veen (Exton, Pa./The Agnes Irwin School) scored her third goal this season from the top of the circle.

With a tied score, 2-2, the teams went into overtime. Sacred Heart took two shots but junior goalkeeper Chloe Verwiel (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) blocked both of them. Parsons then attempted to shoot off of a penalty stroke but missed. Farley then came through and ended the game off of a penalty stroke, tallying her fifth goal this season.

The Hoyas outshot the Pioneers 21-10 and also had the advantage on penalty corners this game, 19-5. Verwiel had three saves to Sacred Heart's 10 saves.

The Blue & Gray will return home next weekend for its final two games of the regular season. Georgetown will play BIG EAST rival Villanova on Friday at 2 p.m. and La Salle on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be available to watch via livestream and with live stats on www.GUHoyas.com.
