WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team split a dual meet with Davidson College as the women's side defeated the Wildcats, 172-120, while the men's squad fell, 176-123. Racing took place at Davidson's Baker Sports Complex.
Georgetown's women's squad was led by Phoebe Slaughter (Darien, Conn./Darien), who won a trio of events. She touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle by a two-second margin, and won the 200-yard backstroke by three seconds. With the meet already decided, Slaughter also finished first in the 200-yard IM. Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Schubert (Staten Island, N.Y./Saint Joseph Hill Academy) took first and second, respectively in both the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles. Lauren Henasey (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academic) was GU's other multiple winner, sweeping the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events. The Hoyas also swept the top four spots in both diving events as Elizabeth Miller (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) took the 1-meter dive and Naomi Peng (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) claimed the 3-meter.
Alexandra Rieker (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ronald Reagan), Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) and Morgan Conley (Winnetka, Ill./Chatham/New Trier [N.J.]) all also won individual events, winning the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle, respectively.
The Hoya men's side, Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass./Central Catholic) led the Blue & Gray with three individual victories, winning both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke as well as the 200-yard IM. Jack Lynch (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was GU's only other individual winner, touching the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly. Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) also swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events.
The Hoyas will return to the pool next weekend, Nov. 3-4, with a two-day, four-team meet at Seton Hall. In addition to the host Pirates, Georgetown will also compete against Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Villanova. Racing will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
