Oct. 5, 2017 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown field hockey squad (7-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) will host Liberty University on Friday at 2 p.m. in a BIG EAST match. The Hoyas are coming into the weekend with back-to-back wins from last weekend and are hoping to win their third-straight match. Friday's game will be available to watch via livestream and with live stats at www.GUHoyas.com.
On Monday, freshman Ali Cronin (Hershey Pa./Hershey) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after she scored two goals and had four assists last weekend. Freshman Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her three goals and assist over the weekend. Osborne currently leads the Hoyas with nine goals this season.
The Liberty Flames (4-6, 2-1 BIG EAST) are coming into Friday's match off of a 1-1 weekend. They defeated Old Dominion, 3-1, last Friday and lost to No. 13 Wake Forest, 3-4, on Sunday. Agueda Moroni currently leads the Flames with 11 goals this season, which is half of Liberty's total goals in the 2017 campaign.
The last time Georgetown and Liberty played against each other was during the 2014 campaign, when the Flames shutout the Hoyas. This will be the fourth time in history that the two teams will meet. The Hoyas are currently in third place in the NCAA for most penalty corners per game. They average 9.33 penalty corners per game, while No. 3 University of Virginia leads with 11.0 and No. 1 UConn has 9.82 per game.
The Hoyas will hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Providence College on Friday for a BIG EAST game at 6 p.m. and then will travel to Lehigh University on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be available to watch via livestream and with live stats at www.GUHoyas.com.
