Weisenberg Selected to All-BIG EAST Preseason Team

Dec. 19, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University baseball junior third baseman Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla./San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) has been named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team, as announced by the conference offices on Tuesday. The preseason team was voted on by the league's coaches, who could not vote for their own players.

In his sophomore campaign in 2017, Weisenberg came on strong in the second half of the season, finishing with a team-leading six home runs to go along with a .265 (31-for-117) batting average, two triples, three doubles and 25 RBIs. Over GU's final 23 games, he batted .289 (22-for-76) with all six of his home runs, a double, two triples, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored. On April 18 at Mount St. Mary's, Weisenberg had two home runs and six RBIs in Georgetown's nine-run fourth inning. He led off the rally with a two-run shot before capping the inning with a grand slam.

In the coaches' preseason poll, the Hoyas were picked to finish sixth with 11 points. St. John's, the defending BIG EAST regular season champions, were selected to repeat with 35 points, while Xavier came in second with 30 points. Creighton (24) and Seton Hall (23) rounded out the top four, while Butler was fifth with 18 points. Villanova was picked behind GU with six points.

The Blue & Gray finished the 2017 season with a 27-28 overall record, tying for the third most wins in program history. The 27 wins were also the most by a Georgetown team since 1985. The Hoyas open the 2018 season on Feb. 16, at Wake Forest.
