Box Score Feb. 11, 2017 Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team lost a pair of games today to move to 0-4 on the year. Both games were rematches with Memphis and Florida International, part of the Felsburg Invitational in Miami, Fla.
Game 1
Freshman Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va./James Madison) started in the circle for the Hoyas. Vannicola went the distance, giving up six earned runs on 13 hits while striking out three.
Memphis took the lead in the top of the first, but Georgetown fired back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning with two-run home run from sophomore Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern).
The Hoyas added another run in the bottom of the second via the home run off the bat of freshman Sera Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Marian).
GU got it going again in the third inning, with singles by Bennett and Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) and a walk by Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr). The run was pushed across when Stevens was hit by a pitch. Stevens would pick up another RBI in the fifth inning, when her single plated Elvina who had reached on an error.
The Hoyas would plate two more in the sixth inning. Mallory Belknap (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) started off the inning with a single, Bennett walked and then Elvina drove in Belknap with an RBI single. Ramsey followed that up with an RBI single of her own for the second run of the inning.
Five Hoyas had multiple hits in the game. Ramsey finished the game with three hits and an RBI. Stevens added three hits and three RBI, Bennett also finished with three hits and two RBI. Elvina and Belknap had two hits apiece.
Game 2
Freshman Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. Johns School) was on the rubber for Georgetown. She went two innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits. Casey Kozak (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) replaced her in the circle and gave up one unearned run on three hits in 2.2 innings of work.
Stevens got the Hoyas on the board in the fourth inning, with her second home run of the day.
Elvina scored on the play after getting on base with a walk.
Belknap, Elvina and freshman Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) also had hits for Georgetown.
The Hoyas will conclude the tournament when they rematch against FIU at noon.
