WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's tennis team defeated Morgan State by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday at Arlington YMCA. This win moves the team to (2-2) on the young season.
The Blue & Gray won a tightly-contested doubles point. The Hoyas won at No. 1 and No. 2. Senior Jordan Portner (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and junior Mac Rechan (Clayton, Mo./Clayton) won 6-1 at No.1 and junior Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) and senior Yannik Mahlangu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley High School) won 6-3 at No.2.
Georgetown ran away in singles play registering wins in five of six matches. Sophomore Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel High School) won at No. 2, 6-3, 4-2. No. 3 and No. 4 had competitive three-set matches with Mahlangu winning, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 and senior Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) won 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Senior Ryan McElvenny (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid School) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and junior Bart Parenese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Hoyas return to action on February 11 when they host Monmouth. The match will begin at 4 p.m. ET.
