Box Score March 18, 2017 Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team defeated UNC-Wilmington on Saturday by a score of 5-1 to improve to 6-16 on the season, while UNCW fell to 15-6-1. This game was the only game for the Hoyas on day two of the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Showcase.
Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) started in the circle for the Hoyas and went the distance. Pacha pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out four.
Sera Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Marion) got things going for the Hoyas in the second inning with a solo home run to put GU in front 1-0.
The Blue & Gray pushed two more runs across in the fourth inning. Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) walked to lead off the inning. Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) had a sacrifice bunt to advance pinch runner Olivia Russ (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) to second base. Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) singled and stole second to push runners to second and third. That set the table for Alexa Dolby (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) who delivered an RBI single to score both runners.
In the fifth inning Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) singled with one out and stole second. Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern) picked up the first RBI of the inning with a single to plate Kane. Three straight walks to Holiday, Elvina and Ramsey provided the next run for GU, with Ramsey picking up the RBI. However, the bases remained loaded after two consecutive groundouts to end the inning.
UNCW would plate one run in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be all they could manage.
Georgetown returns to the field on Sunday, March 18 for a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure at 11:30 a.m. and against host UNC-Wilmington at 1 p.m. For live stats and a livestream of the UNCW game visit www.GUHoyas.com.
