March 6, 2017 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team will conclude its trip to the Lone Star State with a matchup against Houston on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m ET.
The Blue & Gray is coming off a 1-3 weekend at the Texas A&M Invite. The Hoyas defeated Prairie View A&M in the opening game of the tournament in extra innings, 7-6. The walk-off hit came off the bat of Olivia Russ (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) who delivered her third hit of the game. Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va./James Madison) picked up the win in relief by pitching the final inning. Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern) was key at the plate throughout the weekend for GU delivering a home run and six RBI. Her eight RBI on the season are tied for a team high with Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop Geroge Ahr). Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) launched her team-leading third home run of the season.
Houston enters Tuesday's matchup with a 9-11 record and owns a .297 team batting average, while the pitching staff has a 3.28 ERA.
