WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team was defeated by UC Irvine on Tuesday by a score of 4-1.

The Blue & Gray took an early lead by winning a tightly-contested doubles point. The Hoyas won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1, Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) and Jordan Portner (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) won 7-6 (6) and Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel High School) and Ian Witmer (North Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) won at No. 3, 6-3.

UC Irvine took control in the match by winning four-straight singles matches to clinch the match. The matches at No. 5 and No. 6 were not completed.

The Hoyas return to action on Thursday, March 9 with matches against Loyola Marymount and Utah State, in Marina del Rey, Calif.
