WASHINGTON - Georgetown University baseball sophomore right-handed pitcher Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. The honor recognizes Cushing's effort on Saturday against NYIT.
Cushing needed just 77 pitches to fire seven shutout innings in Georgetown's 9-0 win over the Bears at Shirley Povich Field. He allowed just seven hits while not walking anyone and tied his career high with nine strikeouts. Cushing improved to 4-2 on the season, winning his second-consecutive game, and lowered his ERA nearly a full point to 4.59 on the year.
This is Cushing's first career honor roll selection and the sixth of the season for the Blue & Gray.
The Hoyas (20-12) will remain home this weekend as they open BIG EAST Conference play with a three-game series, April 13-15, against Creighton University at Shirley Povich Field.
