Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team fell to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday in a midweek matchup by a score of 6-2. With the loss, the Hoyas fell to 11-24 and Mount St. Mary's improved to 13-20.

Casey Kozak (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) started on the mound for GU and went four innings while giving up four runs on two hits. Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va./James Madison) came on in relief to pitch the final two innings and gave up two runs on two hits. The Blue & Gray outhit the Mountaineers by a count of 11-4, but three well-timed home runs for Mount St. Mary's proved to be the difference.

The Mountaineers got off to a hot start by building a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth inning. Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) got things moving in the sixth inning with a one-out single and advanced to third on Noelle Holiday's (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) double into center field. Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) walked to load the bases. The first Hoya run of the game came on the next play as Sera Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) singled to score Elvina. However, the inning ended with a double play.

GU picked up another run in the seventh inning. Ciara Sullivan (Middletown, N.J./Middletown) led off the inning with a single and advanced to second when Mallory Belknap (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) singled. Elvina then walked to load the bases for Holiday who singled up the middle to plate the final run.

Elvina continued her hot streak by reaching base in all four at bats with two walks and two hits. Three other Hoyas finished with multiple hits. Belknap, Holiday, and Delaney Darden (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) each had two hits and Ramsey reached bases three times with two walks and a single.

Georgetown returns to the field this weekend when it resumes BIG EAST Conference play at home against Villanova. There will be a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday and a single game on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. For live stats, visit www.GUHoyas.com.
