April 17, 2017 WASHINGTON - A total of 15 field hockey student-athletes were named to the 2016 Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad as announced by the NFHCA earlier this month. Highlighting the group were seniors Aliyah Graves-Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Academy), Devin Holmes (Fleetville, Pa./Wyoming Seminary), Rachel Skonecki (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) and Molly Thompson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer), who were all recognized as four-year recipients of the honor.
Additional seniors included Maria McDonald (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Hailey Vann (Yorktown, Va./Tabb). Mackenzie Schneider (Norfolk, Va./Maury) was the lone junior on the list.
Sophomores included Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia), Hannah Sargent (Malvern, Pa./Germantown Academy) and Chloe Vernweil (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury).
Freshmen were also eligible as Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), Jessica Lagano (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), Lindsay Getz (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy), Cameron Rogers (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) and Jordan Sweeney (Clarksville, Md./Good Counsel) earned their first honor.
In total, 929 student-athletes made the list with 79 schools represented. The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.
Earlier this spring, the team was recognized as one of 76 programs in the nation to earn the 2016 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.
The squad returns 13 players and will welcome seven freshmen in the fall.
