Virginia added three runs to their lead by plating all three runs in the third inning to make the score 6-2.
The Hoyas were kept quiet until the sixth inning, when Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second after Sera Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) walked. The first run of the inning came after two-consecutive wild pitches and Ramsey hustled home from third. Olivia Russ (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) then picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice to score Stevens from third. Belknap reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Both runners advanced after a pass ball. Kane fired her third hit of the game to pick up an RBI and score Russ from third, which cut the Virginia lead to 6-5.
After the Cavaliers added a run in the bottom of the sixth, Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) led off the top of the seventh with a walk and advanced to third after a single by Stevens. Alessandra Gargicevich-Almeida (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King) then cut the Virginia lead to 7-6 with an RBI groundout to score Elvina. However, the Hoya comeback was stifled with a groundout.
