Box Score April 18, 2017

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team fell to Virginia on Tuesday in a midweek matchup by a score of 7-6. With the loss, the Hoyas dropped to 11-28, while the Cavaliers improved to 17-29.

Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) started in the circle for GU. She went 2.1 innings and gave up six runs on nine hits while striking out two. Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va./James Madison) came on in relief to pitch the final 3.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit.

The Cavaliers got off to a hot start by building a 3-0 heading into the third inning. However, the Hoyas bounced back by plating two runs in the top of the third. Delaney Darden (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) reached on a fielder's choice with one out and advanced to second when Mallory Belknap (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) reached on an error. The bases were loaded when Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) singled to shortstop. The first run of the inning came on the next play when Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md/Northern) walked to score Darden. Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) then picked up an RBI with a groundout to second base to score Belknap from third.

Virginia added three runs to their lead by plating all three runs in the third inning to make the score 6-2.

The Hoyas were kept quiet until the sixth inning, when Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/Jack C. Hays) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second after Sera Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) walked. The first run of the inning came after two-consecutive wild pitches and Ramsey hustled home from third. Olivia Russ (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) then picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice to score Stevens from third. Belknap reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Both runners advanced after a pass ball. Kane fired her third hit of the game to pick up an RBI and score Russ from third, which cut the Virginia lead to 6-5.

After the Cavaliers added a run in the bottom of the sixth, Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) led off the top of the seventh with a walk and advanced to third after a single by Stevens. Alessandra Gargicevich-Almeida (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King) then cut the Virginia lead to 7-6 with an RBI groundout to score Elvina. However, the Hoya comeback was stifled with a groundout.

Georgetown returns to the field this weekend for its final BIG EAST home series of the season, against DePaul. The weekend will include Senior Day on Saturday, April 22 beginning at 11 a.m. and Sunday, April 23 will feature a military appreciation game. For live stats, visit www.GUHoyas.com.
