WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team was defeated by Villanova on Sunday by a score of 4-3. With the loss, GU dropped to 7-13 on the season while VU improved to 14-9.
The Wildcats got off to a hot start by sweeping all three matches in doubles play.
The Blue & Gray picked up all of its points in singles play. GU pulled the match closer with wins at No. 1 by Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) by a score of 7-5, 6-3, and at No. 2 by Jordan Portner (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) who won 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. However, Villanova clinched the match with a win at No. 3. Ian Witmer (North Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School) closed out the scoring with a win at No. 5 by a score of 7-5, 6-2.
Georgetown returns to the court on Thursday, April 27 when it begins BIG EAST Championship play in Cayce, S.C. Seedings will be announced on Monday evening.
