WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team fell in the series finale against Seton Hall on Sunday by a score of 1-0. The Hoyas dropped to 11-23 and 4-5 in BIG EAST Conference play, while Seton Hall moved to 18-14-1 and 5-4 in conference play.
Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) started in the circle for Georgetown and fell to 8-9 on the season. She went six innings and gave up one run on five hits while striking out 12.
The Blue & Gray outhit Seton Hall 8-5 but were unable to produce a run. The lone run in the game came in the fifth inning for the Pirates after a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.
Georgetown's first scoring opportunity came in the first inning. Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) delivered a one-out single into left field and advanced to second on Gabriela Elvina's (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) single up the middle. Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) loaded the bases with a single into left field. However, the inning was ended on a tough line drive double play.
The final opportunity came in the seventh inning. Ciara Sullivan (Middletown, N.J./Middletown) came into the game as a pinch hitter and roped a double into left field. Mallory Belknap (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) singled into left field with two outs, but Sullivan was thrown out at home to end the game.
Elvina and Holiday led the team offensively with two hits each. Kane extended her hit streak to 12 games after hitting safely in all three games this weekend. Pacha's 21 strikeouts this weekend are the most in conference series for her this year.
