WASHINGTON - Xavier scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back, defeating the Georgetown University baseball team, 13-1, on Friday afternoon at Hayden Field in Cincinnati. With the loss, the Hoyas fell to 27-27 overall and 4-13 in BIG EAST play, while the Musketeers improved to 28-25 overall and 9-6 in conference action.

Simon Mathews (West Haven, Conn./Hopkins School/Temple) started on the mound and went six innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits while striking out five. Jordan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./New Trier/Lawrenceville [N.J.]) fired two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla./San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) hit a solo home run, while Beau Hall (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) doubled for his 150th career hit, becoming the 26th member of the 150-hit club.

Xavier opened the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and extended its lead to 7-0 with single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Weisenberg delivered the lone run for the Hoyas with a solo home run to left field in the top of the seventh inning. His fifth home run of the season ties him for the team lead with Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep).

The Musketeers answered back with six runs, on three home runs, off of Nick Leonard (Washington, D.C./Maret) in the bottom of the seventh to provide the final score.
