LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Georgetown University track & field team got off to a solid start at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Championships, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington. On the first day of the prelims, a meet that serves as the precursor to the final site of the championships in Eugene, Ore., one Hoya has already punched his ticket to nationals while a trio of GU runners advanced to the next round of competition. A live stream of the event will be available on the SEC Network+, available through the WatchESPN app.

"We had a solid first day of competition here in Lexington," Director of Track & Field Cross Country Julie Culley said. "The night was highlighted by Jon Green's well-executed race plan to advance to the NCAA finals in the 10K. Earlier in the day, Amos and Joe both nabbed an auto spot in the 1,500m and 800m, respectively, while Emma was the fastest time qualifier to advance to the 800m final.

"We had several individuals run great races this evening despite not advancing in the rounds. They gained invaluable experience for the future. We look forward to advancing a few more athletes tomorrow in the 800m and 3000m steeple quarterfinals."

As it has been for the last two years, All-American Jonathan Green (Berlin, Mass./Saint John's High School) is the first Hoya to punch his ticket to Eugene as he qualified for the 10,000-meter finals with a ninth-place finish on Thursday night. With a conservative pace to open the 25-lap race, Green ran a smart second half of the race when the pace picked up and the tightly-packed field made its push. He comfortable coasted to his necessary top-12 finish in the 48-athlete field. It is the third-straight year the Hoya has advanced to the finals site and the sixth-straight year Georgetown has put a student-athlete in the 10,000-meter finals.

The first athlete of the day to advance to the next round was senior Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis, Mo./Saint Louis Country Day) in the men's 1,500-meter run. The All-American automatically qualified for the quarterfinals as he finished fifth in his heat. This is the third time in his career he has advanced to the 1,500-meter quarterfinals.

In the women's 800-meter run, All-American Emma Keenan (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) found herself in one of the faster heats and crossed the finish in fourth place, having to wait on the final heat to see if she qualified on time. The senior clocked the fastest non-automatic qualifier (2:07.19) to earn a spot in the 800-meter quarterfinals on Friday.

All-American Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) made it look easy today as he handily won his heat in the men's 800-meter first round, recording a time of 1:49.29, to solidify a spot in Friday's quarterfinals.

The Hoyas continue competition on Friday with four events slated for the day.
