Trio of Hoyas Named First Team All-Americans

June 12, 2017

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field team picked up a trio of First Team All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the completion of the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Additionally, a pair of Hoyas earned honorable mention accolades from the governing body, as announced on Monday afternoon.

Scott Carpenter (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial) caps an excellent year with the Blue & Gray with his fourth All-America nod over the last three seasons. He recorded his best individual national collegiate finish as he placed fifth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a PR 8:32.94.

Darren Fahy (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) earns the fourth All-America distinction of his career and the second of the academic year. It's the second-consecutive year Fahy was named a First Team All-American in the steeplechase and his runner-up performance (8:31.08) was a PR and IAAF World Championships A standard.

Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) was tabbed a First Team All-American for the third time in his career, matching his indoor performance with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run at the outdoor championships. White's time of 1:45.73 is a new school record and an IAAF World Championship A standard. White broke both the indoor and outdoor 800-meter records during the 2017 track season.

The trio of performances led the Georgetown men to a 12th-place showing with 18 points, tied with the University of Houston. It is the best men's team finish since 1991 when the Blue & Gray finished eighth. Since 1991, the Hoyas have posted a trio of top-25 finishes: 1992 (T13th), 1997 (T25th), 2017 (T12th).

For their efforts, Jonathan Green (Berlin, Mass./Saint John's School) and Emma Keenan (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) earned honorable mention accolades in the men's 10,000-meter run and the women's 800-meter run, respectively.
