Hoyas Host Quinnipiac for BIG EAST Opener Friday

Sept. 14, 2017

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey team (4-2) will open BIG EAST play on Friday at 2 p.m. when the squad faces its first conference competition against Quinnipiac University at Cooper Field. The Hoyas will then face Towson University in a road nonconference contest on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games will be available to watch via livestream and with live stats at www.GUHoyas.com.

On Monday, freshman Anna Farley (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. The Hoyas went 1-1 last weekend in a triple-overtime loss to the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a 4-3 victory over Holy Cross. Farley had her first two career goals last weekend, one in each game, as well as two assists.

The Quinnipiac Bobcats (1-5) are also looking for their first BIG EAST Conference win on Friday. They are coming into the week with their first win of the season, defeating Yale, 4-2, and a loss against Hofstra, 2-4. Quinnipiac has also lost to No. 12 Boston College, No. 24 Maine, Northeastern and Holy Cross. Dayna Barlow and Valerie Perkins currently lead the Bobcats with two goals apiece for the team.

Friday marks the second meeting ever between the Hoyas and Bobcats. The last meeting was during the 2016 campaign, when the Hoyas fell short to Quinnipiac, 4-2.

The Blue & Gray will then travel to Towson, Md. on Sunday at noon in hopes of continuing the Tigers' (0-6) six-game losing streak. The Towson field hockey team (0-6) has not scored a goal in the past two games, where it faced off against No. 11 University of Maryland and American University. The last time Georgetown saw Towson was during the 2016 season, when GU shutout the Tigers 4-0.

The Hoyas will hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Virginia to face off against Old Dominion and Longwood.
