Georgetown Loses to Longwood, 4-1

Sept. 24, 2017

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey team (5-5, 0-2 BIG EAST) lost to Longwood University on Sunday afternoon at the Longwood Athletics Complex. The Hoyas lost 4-1 to the Lancers, advancing the Lancers to 8-1 overall.

Longwood scored its first goal within the first four minutes of the match and Georgetown could not seem to find the equalizer. Leonie Verstraete had two goals in the first half for the Lancers.

It was not until the second half when freshman Nell Van Schaack (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) put Georgetown on the board, tallying up her fourth goal of the season. Van Schaack got the point after a deflection on the penalty corner by Anna Farley (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air). This marks van Shaacks's second goal of the weekend.

The Blue & Gray could not seem to stop the Lancers from scoring, as they went on to score two more goals in the second half of the game.

Meanwhile, the Hoyas outshot Longwood, 18-15, and goalkeeper Chloe Verwiel (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) had eight saves, while Longwood's goalkeeper Katie Wyman had four saves.

The Hoyas will return home next weekend at 2 p.m., when they face off against Temple University. The game will be available to watch via livestream and through live stats on www.GUHoyas.com.
