Jan. 18, 2018 WASHINGTON - Two Georgetown University student-athletes were recognized with the 2018 PNC Student-Athlete Achiever Awards during Wednesday's men's basketball game against No. 1/1 Villanova at Capital One Arena. Junior Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) from the swimming & diving program was the male recipient, while senior Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School) of the women's golf team was the female honoree.
The awards were presented by Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed and Bill Lynch, Head of Real Estate Banking for PNC Bank.
"Jacquelyn and Ryan are well-rounded student-athletes who demonstrate leadership in the classroom and in competition," said PNC Bank Regional President Richard K. Bynum. "We congratulate each of them for their commitment to their sport and to their scholastic achievement."
A diver on the swimming & diving team, Blom is a junior in the Georgetown College and has helped lead the Hoyas to back-to-back runner-up finishes at the BIG EAST Championships. He is the defending BIG EAST champion in the 1-meter dive, winning the title in both 2016 and 2017, and has won silver and bronze medals in the 3-meter dive.
A senior leader for the women's golf team, Eleey is a sociology major in the College. She helped the Hoyas win their first ever BIG EAST Championship last spring and win three of their first five tournaments to open this season. She picked up her third career individual title at the Princeton Invitational in October, and has earned two BIG EAST Golfer of the Week accolades as a senior. A three-time BIG EAST First Team selection, Eleey won the individual title at the 2015 BIG EAST Championship, leading to her earning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors.
