WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's soccer standout Elizabeth Wenger (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was selected by the Boston Breakers in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft on Thursday morning. Wenger was selected by the Breakers with the seventh pick in the second round of the draft, the 17th overall selection.

"I'm very excited and thankful to have been given the chance to continue my soccer career with the Boston Breakers," said Wenger. "I'm so grateful to everyone here at Georgetown and look forward building on everything I've learned at the next level in Boston."

Wenger earned her first career All-America honor this past fall receiving a nod to the second team. She was a First Team All-Midwest Region honoree after being named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. She was a three-time All-BIG EAST honoree, earning a spot on the first team as a senior. Wenger earned five BIG EAST weekly awards this season and also her second-consecutive all-tournament award being named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player as a senior.

She anchored a defense that allowed just seven goals in 21 games and led the nation in shutout percentage. Wenger started in 19 games on the season, and in her career she had two assists and 78 starts.

"Everybody here is so happy and excited for Liz," said Georgetown Head Coach Dave Nolan. "It is certainly a testament to all the hard work and sacrifice she has made over the years and I think Boston will be a great fit for her. Liz is one of those players who consistently got better every year and, in my opinion, emerged as the top defender in the country last year. We are all excited to see her continue to develop over this next stage in her career."

This is the fourth player in program history to be selected in a professional draft. It is the highest a Georgetown player has gone in the NWSL draft with both Daphne Corboz (C'15) and Emily Menges (C'14) being selected 25th overall in their respective years. Ingrid Wells (C'11) was selected ninth overall in the 2012 Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) draft.

Wenger was one of just two players selected from the BIG EAST Conference.
