WASHINGTON– Georgetown University field hockey freshman goalkeeper
Ciara Weets (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary) was selected as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, as announced on Monday. Weets received an honor roll nod earlier in the season after shutting out Davidson and Appalachian State. The BIG EAST player of the week award is Georgetown's first of the year.
On Friday afternoon, Georgetown edged then No. 16 Old Dominion, 2-1, in overtime. Weets made eight saves in the contest, including the most crucial save of the game off a penalty stroke in the first half to keep the score favoring the Hoyas, 1-0. The win against ODU was the program's first win against an opponent ranked in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll.
On Sunday, the Hoyas defeated Lehigh, 7-1. Weets was unscored upon in the first half and picked up two saves.
Weets has compiled 45 saves this season for a 1.56 GAA and 0.738 save percentage. She has three shutouts this season and one combined shutout with senior goalkeeper

The Hoyas are back in action on Friday, Oct. 5, as they take on Temple in their last string of away matches for the season. The squad will close out their three-game road-swing at Rutgers and Liberty before returning to Cooper Field on Sunday, Oct. 14 to face Towson.
