Field Hockey Takes on Liberty and Towson This Weekend

WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University field hockey team (9-4 overall, 2-2 BIG EAST) will play a pair of games this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 12, the Hoyas travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to square off against No. 19 Liberty (9-4 overall, 4-0 BIG EAST) at 4 p.m. in a BIG EAST matchup. The Blue & Gray will return to Cooper Field to host Towson (1-11) on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. Live stats and a live stream will be available for both contests at GUHoyas.com. Friday's game will be broadcasted on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

Last weekend, junior Lindsay Getz (Northfield, Ill. / Loyola Academy), junior Emily Fraser (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) and sophomore Ali Cronin (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) tallied goals in the team's 3-2 victory over Temple for the squad's second straight BIG EAST win. Sophomore Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) leads the Hoyas with 18 points off of eight goals and two assists. Getz follows with 17 points from seven goals and three assists. Sophomore Jax van der Veen (Exton, Pa. / The Agnes Irwin School) leads the Hoyas in the assists category with seven, followed by Cronin with six.

On Sunday, freshman goalkeeper Ciara Weets (Springfield, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary) tied her career-high nine saves in the contest against Rutgers. Weets currently ranks third in saves in the BIG EAST with 56, averaging 4.31 per game.

Liberty saw goals from three separate players in its win against Old Dominion and loss to No. 1 UNC last weekend. Senior Agueda Maroni leads the Flames with 50 points off of 20 goals and 10 assists, followed by sophomore Jill Bolton with 21 points from 10 goals and one assist. The Hoyas are 0-4 in the overall series against Liberty and fell 3-0 to the Flames last season. The match against Liberty will conclude GU's road schedule this year.

GU will host Towson on Sunday in its first of four home games to round out the regular season. The Hoyas and the Tigers have been longtime non-conference rivals, compiling a record of 3-2 in Georgetown's favor in the last five seasons. Last year, Georgetown defeated Towson, 5-1 with goals from Osborne, Getz, Cronin and Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y. / Columbia). The Tigers' lone win this season came from a 4-1 victory over LIU Brooklyn, who the Hoyas defeated 7-0 in September.

Following this weekend, the Blue & Gray will host its last three regular season games at Cooper Field. The Hoyas face Providence in a BIG EAST matchup on Friday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. followed by Longwood on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. Sunday will also be Senior Day as the team recognizes the accomplishments of the members of the senior class.
