Field Hockey Hosts Providence and Longwood

WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University field hockey team (10-5 overall, 2-3 BIG EAST) will host a pair of games this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 19, the Hoyas square off against Providence (10-6 overall, 3-2 BIG EAST) at 2 p.m. in a BIG EAST matchup. The Blue & Gray will play Longwood (8-5) on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. Prior to push back on Sunday, Georgetown's four seniors will be honored in a ceremony for Senior Day. Live stats and a live stream will be available for both contests at GUHoyas.com.
 
Last weekend, the Hoyas defeated Towson for their 10th win of the season; the first time since the 2001 campaign that the Blue & Gray has secured double digit wins. Anna Farley (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) scored her first goal of the season to give GU the 2-1 lead over the Tigers after sophomore Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) scored her ninth goal to equalize in the first half. Osborne leads the Hoyas with 20 points from nine goals and two assists. Junior Lindsay Getz (Northfield, Ill. / Loyola Academy) trails Osborne with 19 points off of eight goals and three assists. Getz scored the lone goal in the contest against Liberty on Friday.
 
Providence currently sits third in the BIG EAST standings with Georgetown trailing at fourth. The Friars are coming off a three game win streak including a 6-2 victory over BIG EAST opponent Quinnipiac. Junior Allyson Parker leads the team in points, with 16 off of six goals and junior Izzy Mendez leads in the goals category with seven. Starting goalkeeper Lydia Rice has compiled 61 saves on the season for a 1.42 goals-against average and .744 save percentage. In the all time series between the Friars and the Hoyas, Providence leads 14-2.
 
In the last non conference game of the season, Georgetown will face the Longwood Lancers. Last weekend, the Lancers were edged by Villanova, 2-1 in overtime. Longwood standout Leonie Verstraete leads the team with 22 points off of nine goals and four assists. Last season, the Lancers defeated the Hoyas, 4-1, with a goal from Nell van Schaack (Winnetka, Ill. / New Trier). Georgetown leads the overall series against Longwood, 9-6.
 
Following the weekend, the Blue & Gray will host its last regular season game against BIG EAST opponent No. 5 UConn. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26. Live stats and a live stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.
