Trio of Former Hoyas Selected in MLL Supplemental Draft

WASHINGTON – Three former Georgetown University men's lacrosse standouts were selected in the Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft, held in Boston last week. Craig Berge (MSB'18), Greg Galligan (MSB'18) and Reilly O'Connor (C'15) were each selected from an initial pool of 1,600 players in the first of two supplemental drafts to be held this offseason.

Galligan was picked by the Ohio Machine while Berge and O'Connor were both chosen by the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Berge recently concluded his career on the Hilltop, culminating in Georgetown's first BIG EAST Championship in program history. A two-time USILA All-American, he finished his tenure with the Hoyas with 63 goals and 57 assists for 120 career points. Berge ranks 12th all-time in assists and is tied for 18th in points at Georgetown. He added 83 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers while scoring 14 man-up goals in his 61 games for the Blue & Gray. Berge was named honorable mention USILA All-America as a freshman, the first to do so at GU during his rookie season, and bookended his career with third team USILA All-America honors as a senior.

Galligan was an integral part of Georgetown's defensive midfield during his time in the Nation's Capital, helping anchor GU's rope unit en route to the program's first BIG EAST Championship as senior. He collected 48 ground balls to go with 29 caused turnovers in his 54 games as a Hoyas while adding six goals and pair on assists on the offensive end. Regarded as one of the top defensive midfielders in the nation as a senior, Galligan had a breakout season with career highs of 22 caused turnovers, 21 ground balls and three goals. On the season, Georgetown's defense held opponents to just 8.12 goals per game and held opponents to six goals or less in eight different games.

O'Connor had a standout career for the Hoyas, scoring 66 goals to go with 67 assists for 133 career points. He currently ranks eighth all-time in career assists at Georgetown, 14th in scoring and is tied for 21st in goals. He added 56 ground balls in 57 games as a Hoya and was named All-BIG EAST Second Team twice during his time on the Hilltop, concluding his collegiate career by playing in the prestigious North-South All-Star Game. Following graduation, O'Connor was a first round selection, seventh overall, in the National Lacrosse League by the Calgary Roughnecks in 2015. He was traded to the New England Blackwolves in 2016 and has scored 31 goals to go with 99 assists for 130 points in his three-year NLL career.

A total of 37 Hoyas have been selected in an MLL Draft since 2001 with the most recent coming as Ryan Hursey (NHS'18) was selected in the fifth round, 42nd overall, by the Bayhawks in the 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft. Three former standouts saw game action last season, including Charlie Ford (C'17) with the Florida Launch and both Brodie Merrill (C'05) and Nick Marrocco (C'18) with the Boston Cannons.
