Hoyas Travel to Temple and Rutgers

WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University field hockey team (8-3, 1-2 BIG EAST) will play two games on the road this week. The Blue & Gray will square off against Temple (2-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) in a BIG EAST matchup on Friday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. and No. 15 Rutgers (8-3) on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for both games at GUHoyas.com.
 
Last Friday, the Hoyas defeated then No. 16 Old Dominion, 2-1, in overtime. Junior midfielder Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y. / Garden City) notched the game winning goal just under four minutes into the first overtime period. On Monday, freshman goalkeeper Ciara Weets (Springfield, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after compiling eight saves in the contest against the Monarchs, including a critical penalty stroke save.
 
Both sophomore Cami Osborne (Newtown Square, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) and junior Emily Fraser (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) tallied two goals each in the 7-1 victory over Lehigh on Sunday. Osborne leads the team with 18 points off of eight goals and two assists. Junior Lindsay Getz (Northfield, Ill. / Loyola Academy) scored two goals over the weekend and trails Osborne with 15 points from six goals and three assists. Sophomore Ali Cronin (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) notched her sixth assist of the season on Sunday and leads the Hoyas in the category.
 
Temple is coming off a 7-0 loss to then No. 2 UConn and a 3-0 loss to Penn. Junior midfielder Kathryn Edgar leads the Owls with seven points off of two goals and three assists. Temple's senior goalkeeper Chloe Johnson has a 3.68 GAA and .733 save percentage.
 
Last season, the Hoyas edged the Owls, 3-2, with goals from Osborne, Helena Masiello (East Greenbush, N.Y. / Columbia) and Nell Van Schaack (Winnetka, Ill. / New Trier). GU is 3-8 against Temple in the all-time series.
 
Rutgers defeated then No. 19 Delaware, 2-1, and dropped to No. 7 Penn State, 3-2, last weekend. The Scarlet Knights are 1-3 in the Big Ten Conference with a win over Michigan State. Sophomore midfielder Daphne Groothuis leads the team with 21 points off of six goals and nine assists. Junior forward Austyn Cueno follows Groothuis with 12 overall points. Rutgers will face No. 2 Maryland on Friday before squaring off against the Hoyas on Sunday. 
 
GU was defeated by Rutgers, 5-0, in their last meeting in the 2013 season. 
 
Following this weekend, the Blue & Gray will visit Liberty on Friday, Oct. 10 and return to Cooper Field to host Towson on Sunday, Oct. 14. For more information, visit www.GUHoyas.com.
