Trio of Hoyas Named 2019 Men’s Lacrosse Captains

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Kevin Warne has announced the team captains for the 2019 season. Seniors Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville), Austin McDonald (Olney, Md. / Georgetown Prep) and Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) will lead the Hoyas on the field during the upcoming campaign.

"I am really excited for the appointment of Austin, Dan and Luke as our 2019 captains," said Warne. "Each of them has a unique ability to connect with their teammates to bring the best out of them day in and day out. They live what a Georgetown lacrosse player is."

A three-time All-BIG EAST performer as well as an All-American and Tewaaraton Award nominee as a junior in 2018, Bucaro is one of the top offensive threats in the nation. His 139 career points (92G, 47A) rank him 10th all-time in program history in just three years on the Hilltop. Bucaro was tabbed First Team All-BIG EAST as a junior and sophomore, as well as Second Team All-BIG EAST and the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year as a rookie in 2016. He has recorded a point in 33-consecuctive games dating back to his freshman season.

McDonald proved to be one of Georgetown's most versatile offensive players last season, splitting time at attack and with the midfield. He scored 11 goals to go with four assists and collected a career-high 17 ground balls. McDonald had a breakout season as a sophomore in 2017, vaulting into the starting lineup in Georgetown's fifth game of the season. He ranked fourth on the team with 14 goals and was fifth in scoring with 16 points (14G, 2A).

In his first season in the Nation's Capital, Wittenberg earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors and was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team after recording a hat trick against No. 3/3 Denver in the BIG EAST Championship Finals. He was fourth on the team in scoring with 43 points (23G, 20A) and was one of four Hoyas to post at least 20 goals and 20 assists. A transfer from Mercer, Wittenberg was a First Team All-SoCon selection in 2017 and lead the Bears in scoring as a freshman while being named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in 2016.

Georgetown is coming off its first BIG EAST Championship in program history and returns 32 letterwinners from last season.
