Georgetown Recognized as United Soccer Coaches Regional Staff of the Year

WASHINGTON – After leading the Georgetown University women's soccer team to its most successful year in program history, Head Coach Dave Nolan and his staff have been recognized by the United Soccer Coaches as Regional Staff of the Year, announced on Tuesday. The award recognizes the 2018 Regional Staff of the Year winners for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III women's soccer.

Each of the 24 coaching staffs receiving Regional Staff of the Year honors will be recognized at the United Soccer Coaches College Coaches Awards Reception on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 at the convention in Chicago.

In addition, the Regional Staff of the Year recipients will be placed on the United Soccer Coaches ballot for National Staff of the Year consideration within their respective NCAA division. The ballot will also include the addition of coaching staffs from any schools which advance to the semifinals of their NCAA Championship.

Nolan and his staff were one of 24 teams recognized in NCAA Division I, II and III women's soccer. Among those teams, three of Georgetown's 2018 NCAA Tournament opponents were also recognized, including Central Connecticut State, Baylor University and the University of North Carolina.

This is the second time that Nolan and his staff were recognized by the United Soccer Coaches, formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). They were recognized in 2016 when the Hoyas also made it to the College Cup. Earlier this season, Nolan and his staff was named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year for the third time in program history.

Nolan is in his 15th year as the head coach at Georgetown. He has been joined on his staff by fourth-year assistant coaches Lyndse Hokanson and Kristen Meier and volunteer assistant coach Alex Minton. He earned his 200th win on October 4, 2018 in GU's third-straight BIG EAST Championship. Nolan has finished the last 12 seasons with at least 10 wins and has an overall coaching record of 204-80-38.

Nolan has coached the Hoyas to their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance in nine years and second College Cup appearance in three seasons. Seeded No. 1 in their region in the tournament, the Blue & Gray posted wins over Central Connecticut State, Washington State, Duke and Baylor to advance to the semifinals against UNC. Georgetown set a program record for most wins in a single season (21) this year and received a No. 2 national ranking this season, its highest ranking in program history.

The Blue & Gray is one of the four top-seeds in the NCAA Tournament, which have all advanced to the College Cup. Georgetown will face the University of North Carolina on Friday evening in the NCAA Semifinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
