WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team fell in the final game of the Gamecock Invitational to the tournament host, South Carolina, 5-3. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 2-7 on the season, while the Gamecocks improve to 8-1.
The Hoyas got on the board in the top of the third inning. Freshman Arylene Campos (Nogales, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro High School) collected an RBI after getting on base, which allowed freshman Macy Cartwright (Naples, Fla./Naples High School) to score. With the run, Georgetown trailed the Gamecocks, 3-1.
In the final inning of the game, freshman Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda High School) landed on base with a double, sending freshman Reagan Jones (Wyckoff, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) to home plate, making it a 5-2 game.
GU's final run came shortly after from junior Olivia Russ (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Jones.
Sophomore Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) pitched a complete game for the Hoyas, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking our four.
The Blue & Gray will return to South Carolina, February 23-25, for the Chanticleer Showdown, hosted by Coastal Carolina. The first of a five-game slate will be played on Friday at 9:30 a.m. against Pittsburgh. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
