Iowa State Classic - 2/9/2018

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program had a strong front end to a pair of two-day meets. As the Hoyas split sites with both squads traveling to the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, as well as the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, the Blue & Gray managed a slew of strong times, including a pair of impressive 5,000-meter performances in the Hawkeye State.

"The Hoyas had great times at both meets today," Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Julie Culley said. "Paige is having an outstanding opening season of collegiate indoor track and tonight was her first indoor 5K at Georgetown and she kept up with some of the best in the country. Jonathan Green is also in prime form -- this was a stacked field and he's coming out of this meet with the 16th-fastest time in the country right now. And in Boston we have our runners continuing to PR and get faster with each meet. It's really great to see all the hard work these athletes have put in start to pay off on the track and in competition."

Iowa State Classic; Ames, Iowa (Individual Results)
All-American Jonathan Green (Berlin, Mass./Saint John's School), transitioning well to the track following a superb cross country season, finished 11th in the 5,000-meter run at the Iowa State Classic on Friday night. Clocking 16:04.84, the graduate student was less than a second off his PR that he ran at this meet during the 2017 season. Green's time currently ranks 16th among the NCAA field.

On the women's side, sophomore Paige Hofstad (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels), running in her first indoor 5-kilometer run for the Blue & Gray, ran 16:04.84 to finish 10th overall. In just her third indoor meet of her collegiate career, Hofstad held on with one of the most stacked fields in the country in the event.

BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational; Boston, Massachusetts (Individual Results)
With women's events the focus on Friday, GU managed a multitude of PRs on the day, including a pair for freshman Shannon Meisberger (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial) in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Since her opening 400-meter dash in her first collegiate meet, Meisberger has improved by more than a 3-second margin. Taylor Williams (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham/Clemson) and Malika Houston (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington HS) both advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles, respectively.
