Box Score 2 March 10, 2018 Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team went 0-2 on the second day of the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona. The Hoyas fell to the University of Iowa in game one, 5-0, and slipped again in game two against Minnesota, 8-0. With both losses on day two, GU holds a 6-16 record on the season, while Iowa advances to 6-7 and Minnesota improves to 13-8.
In game one, the Hawkeyes took the lead immediately in the first inning, making the score 4-0. They went on to score another run in the fourth inning while the Hoyas could not capitalize on any opportunities to score throughout the game.
Freshman London Diller (Abilene, Texas/George Ranch High School) pitched a complete game against Iowa, giving up eight hits, five runs and striking out one. GU had four hits throughout the game.
In game two against the Golden Gophers, Minnesota found the opportunity to score in every inning except the second. Once again, Georgetown could not act on any opportunities to score.
In the circle, sophomore Isabelle Ortiz (Tucson, Ariz./Bonita Vista High School) got the nod in game two. Ortiz pitched 5.0 innings, giving up nine hits, seven runs and striking out one batter. Sophomore Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va./James Madison HS) relieved Ortiz for the final inning, giving up one hit and one run.
