WASHINGTON - The No. 25/RV Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (4-2) will host the Villanova University Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field in both teams' first game of BIG EAST Conference play. The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. It is the fourth contest in a six-game homestand for the Blue & Gray.
Georgetown fell, 18-6, to the then-No. 13/11 University of Pennsylvania Quakers Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field. Junior attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) led the way for the Hoyas with three goals in the contest as six Hoyas tallied a point in the game. Sophomore midfielder Natalia Lynch (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) was solid on both ends of the field with one assist and three caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) managed an assist and three draw controls, while classmate Haelle Chomo (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) took the loss in the cage with nine saves on the afternoon.
The Hoyas were outshot, 32-24, but picked up 19 ground balls to Penn's 15. The difference came on the draw as the Quakers pulled in 20 draw controls to GU's five. Georgetown committed 19 turnovers while forcing 17 from Penn.
Sophomore attacker Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) leads the offense with 17 goals and five assists for 22 points on the season. She is followed by sophomore attacker Emily Ehle (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) who has six goals and a squad-high 12 assists for 18 points.
Gebhardt is third with 16 goals and one assist for 17 points, while Lynch has managed 10 goals and three assists for 13 points on the year. She also boasts a squad-high seven caused turnovers. Whitehurst has pulled in 34 draw controls to go along with nine goals and two assists, and senior midfielder Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) rounds out those in double figures with seven goals and four assists on the season.
In goal, Chomo has played a majority of the minutes with 43 saves on the season.
The Wildcats finished the nonconference portion of their schedule with a 5-2 record after defeating Rutgers Tuesday night. Katie Comerford leads the team with 30 points (17g, 13a), followed by Jillian Swikart (team-high 21 goals) and Ashley Lynch (10g, 14a) who both have 24 points. Kim McDonough and Devin Hassinger are top two in draw controls with 41 and 35, respectively. Both Julia Michaels and Khaia Baranowski have seen time in net with Baranowski leading the team with 31 saves.
The Hoyas are 15-5 all-time against the Wildcats with a 7-2 record at home. Last season, Georgetown defeated 'Nova, 14-13, on the Main Line. A pair of late goals sealed the win for the Blue & Gray. The last meeting on the Hilltop was an 18-7 Hoya victory during the 2016 campaign.
