WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior outfielder Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office on Monday. The award recognizes Shirley's performance over GU's five games last week.
Shirley was a dominant force at the leadoff spot, batting .421 (8-for-19) with a double and two RBIs in a 3-2 week for the Hoyas. He recorded a .522 on-base percentage as he also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch. Shirley scored seven runs and was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts, making him 7-for-7 on the year to rank second in the BIG EAST. He hit safely in four of the five games, including three multi-hit efforts, and was on base all five at-bats on Wednesday versus Coppin State, scoring four runs and stealing three bases.
This is Shirley's second career honor roll selection, and the first since 2016. It is the third of the season for the Blue & Gray, as Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) and Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) both earned nods last week.
The Hoyas will close out their six-game homestand with a midweek matchup against Navy on Wednesday. First pitch at Shirley Povich Field is scheduled for 4 p.m. Live stats and a subscription-based video stream will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
