WASHINGTON - Playing against a very strong field, the Georgetown University women's golf team shot a 20-over par 884, good for the second-best 54-hole score in program history, to finish in sixth place at 17-team Briar Creek's Invitational. It is just the sixth time a Georgetown lineup has shot below 900 over a three-round tournament. The squad carded identical 3-over par 291 scores in each of the first two rounds, tying for the fifth-best round in program history, before shooting a 302 on Tuesday.

The two-day, three round tournament took place at par-72, 6,101-yard The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in John's Island, South Carolina. Teams played 36 holes on Monday and the final round on Tuesday morning.

Three of the teams that finished ahead of Georgetown are ranked in the top 50 of GOLFSTAT's team rankings. No. 29 North Carolina (16-under par 848) placed first with No. 40 Campbell (854) and No. 23 Illinois (867) in second and third, respectively. Penn State (878) and Texas Tech (882) rounded out the top five.

After Georgetown's 883, the rest of the field consisted of Old Dominion (888), No. 37 East Carolina (892), Maryland (893), No. 53 Coastal Carolina (895), Kansas (898), College of Charleston (898), Boston College (907), South Florida (911), College of Charleston B (919), UNC Asheville (929) and Charleston Southern (941).

Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School) was GU's top scorer, carding an even-par 216 over the three rounds to finish in a tie for 10th place. She was in fifth place after Monday's action, recording a 1-under par 71 over the first 18 holes, and a 2-under par 70 in the second round. This is Eleey's sixth top-10 finish in eight tournaments this season.

Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake Senior) tied her best career 54-hole score, turning in a 6-over par 222 to tie for 30th place overall. She opened the tournament with an even-par 72 and was in the top 20 entering the final 18 holes.

Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) tied for 44th after carding a 9-over par 225, including an even-par 72 in Monday's second round. Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J./Kent Place) and Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) tied for 59th place, carding identical 14-over par 230 scores.

The Blue & Gray will have one more final tuneup before next month's BIG EAST Championships. The Hoyas will play at the Bryan National Intercollegiate, April 6-8, at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C.
