Brent Killam Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week

March 26, 2018

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University baseball's sophomore left-handed pitcher Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) has been named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. The awards recognizes Killam's performance in his start at Ohio State on Saturday.

Killam turned in the best start of his career, leading Georgetown to a 5-1 win on Saturday, going 6.2 innings and allowing just one run on seven hits. He struck out 11, striking out one batter in each inning, to nearly double his previous career high. He lowered his season ERA to 2.76, including a stingy 1.37 mark in his three starts this year in which he is 3-0 in 19.2 innings pitched. The 11 strikeouts are a season high for the Hoyas.

This is Killam's second honor of his career as he was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll earlier this month. It is the fourth award of the season for GU as Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) both earned honor roll nods this month as well. Killam is the first Hoya to earn Pitcher of the Week recognition since Simon Mathews (C'17) earned the award in back-to-back weeks in 2016.

Georgetown (6-16) will return to Shirley Povich Field for a midweek contest against Delaware State on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch against the Hornets is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats and a subscription-based video stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.
