April 17, 2018 WASHINGTON - The No. 23/RV Georgetown University women's lacrosse team will host the University of Connecticut Huskies in a BIG EAST matchup at Cooper Field on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on FOX College Sports Atlantic with Jay Alter and Monika Moore calling the action. Georgetown is currently 9-4 overall and 5-1 in BIG EAST Conference play sitting tied for second in the standings.
On Tuesday, sophomore Natalia Lynch (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week and junior attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Lynch was active on both sides of the field in Saturday's pivotal 15-9 win over Vanderbilt. In addition to scoring, the sophomore totaled game highs of five draw controls and three caused turnovers, while snagging three ground balls. The Hoyas were a perfect 19-19 in clears while disrupting the Commodores into a 13-16 clip.
This is Lynch's first career midfielder of the week award and the second weekly recognition of her career after earning a spot on the honor roll on April 3. It is GU's second midfielder award this season.
Gebhardt reached the 100-career goal mark by scoring six in Saturday's win at Vanderbilt. The junior added an assist and a caused turnover, while her fifth goal of the game proved to be the game winner, her second of the year.
This marks first weekly honor of the season and the third of her career. She was named to the honor roll and the rookie of the week as a freshman during the 2016 season. It is GU's sixth honor roll recognition this year.
Gebhardt leads the offense with 46 points on 40 goals and six assists. She is followed by sophomore attacker Michaela Bruno (Garden City N.Y./Garden City) who has managed 30 goals and nine assists for 39 points as well as sophomore attacker Emily Ehle (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) posting 13 goals and a squad-high 19 assists for 32 points. Lynch has 18 goals and seven assists for 25 points as well as 14 caused turnovers, while senior Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) rounds out the top five with 22 points on 17 goals and five assists.
In goal, junior Haelle Chomo (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) has played a majority of the minutes with 101 saves on the season.
The Huskies are 7-7 overall and 3-3 in BIG EAST play to sit in a fifth place tie in the standings. Grace Nolan is pacing the Huskies in points (81), goals (54) and assists (27) while leading the conference with 5.79 points per game and 3.86 goals per game. Classmate Cassie Ekstrom, is boasting a team-high 42 ground balls and a BIG EAST best 30 caused turnovers. Last time out, UConn downed Cincinnati, 20-8.
The Hoyas are 17-2 all-time against UConn and 10-0 at home. The squads have not met on the Hilltop since the 2015 season when Georgetown won, 13-12, during the regular season. Last year, the Blue & Gray won, 14-6, in Storrs, Connecticut. Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J./Oak Knoll School) led the way for the Hoyas in the win with three goals and three assists in the contest.
