Georgetown Sits in First; Parsells Takes Individual Lead at BIG EAST Championship

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's golf team maintained its double-digit lead, carding an 18-over par 306 in Saturday's second round of the 2018 BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship, presented by Jeep. Junior Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J./Kent Place) fired a 3-over par 75 to take the individual lead at 4-over par. Play took place at the Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie, South Carolina.

"The back nine holes played a little harder than the front nine today based on the wind," Georgetown Head Coach Kate Schanuel said. "We still finished where we wanted to and are looking forward to a great day on the course tomorrow."

Georgetown's two-round score of 29-over par 605 maintained the double-digit lead as the Hoyas own an 11-stroke advantage over second-place Seton Hall (616). Xavier (622), St. John's (634), Butler (639) and Creighton (665) round out the remainder of the standings.

Parsells recorded on birdie on the 17th hole to move into the individual lead with a two-round score of 4-over par 148. She pushed past senior Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School), who carded 6-over par 78 on Saturday to push her two-day total to 5-over par 149, good for second place.

Junior Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) remained in the top five as she also turned in a 6-over par 78 and her overall score of 10-over par 154 puts her in a tie for fifth.

Sophomore Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake Senior) tied with Parsells for Georgetown's top round of the day with a 3-over par 75. She leapt 11 spots in the individual rankings, the most of any player in the tournament, and currently sits in a tie for 11th with a 14-over par 158.

Junior Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) turned in a 9-over par 81 and sits in a tie for 15th place with a two-day 16-over par 160.

The 2018 BIG EAST Championship will wrap up with third-round action on Sunday morning. Teams will being teeing off at 8 a.m. A link to the live scoring can be found at GUHoyas.com.
