Georgetown Travels to Omaha for Series at Creighton

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team heads back out on the road for a three-game BIG EAST series at Creighton this weekend. First pitch on Friday and Saturday is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, while Sunday's finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Live stats for all three games will be available at GUHoyas.com and Sunday's contest will be aired live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

The Hoyas (15-23, 2-4 BIG EAST) got back into the win column, defeating La Salle, 8-5, on Wednesday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field. Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va./Oakton) picked up his second win of the year as he went 5.0 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on 11 hits with four strikeotus. Four relievers combined to shut down the Explorers over the final four innings. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) led the offense with a 5-for-5 performance, his second game with at least five hits in the last five contests. He also scored a run, stole a base and had two RBIs. Alex Bernauer (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) and Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla./San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) each had two hits as GU scored all eight runs in the first inning.

For the season, Davis leads the Hoyas with a .315 (45-for-143) batting average and ranks second in the BIG EAST with 16 stolen bases. Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) is batting .300 (24-for-80). Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk), who has started all 38 games at shortstop, has team highs of nine doubles and 28 RBIs, while Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) leads the squad with a career-high three home runs.

Creighton enters the weekend with a 24-11 overall record and a 3-5 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bluejays defeated Nebraska on Tuesday and took two-of-three games at Xavier last weekend. They are second in the conference with a team .276 batting average and are also second in the league with 32 home runs. Clark Brinkman leads Creighton with a .356 average and has five home runs. Will Robertson is batting .343 and leads the BIG EAST with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs. The pitching staff has a 4.70 team ERA and opponents are batting .276 against the Bluejays with 21 home runs.

Following this weekend's series, the Hoyas will return home for a six-game homestand. The Blue & Gray will host Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, May 1, before welcoming Villanova to Shirley Povich Field for a three-game BIG EAST series next weekend. The homestand will conclude with a doubleheader against Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday, May 9.
