WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team will continue BIG EAST Conference play on Wednesday traveling to the No. 22/RV University of Denver for a 2 p.m. ET matchup with the Pioneers. The Hoyas are currently 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.
On Tuesday, midfielder Natalia Lynch (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts over the past two games. In a 1-1 week for the Hoyas, Lynch totaled five points off three goals and two assists, four ground balls and seven draw controls. The sophomore started the week with three points (2g, 1a) and two ground balls at No. 2/3 Maryland on Wednesday, before adding seven draws, two points and two ground balls in Saturday's 16-10 win over conference foe Cincinnati.
This is her first career weekly recognition and the fourth of the season for the Blue & Gray.
In the victory at Cincinnati, sophomore attacker Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) led the way with two goals and three assists, while junior attacker Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J./Oak Knoll School) posted three goals and one assist. Junior attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) had two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Hannah Seibel (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) connected on two goals and one assist. Rounding out those with multiple goals was freshman attacker Caroline Frock (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) who managed two goals. It was a balanced attack as 11 different Hoyas scored in the victory.
Junior goalkeeper Haelle Chomo (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) played all 60 minutes in the cage tallying 11 saves on the afternoon. The Hoyas outshot the Bearcats, 41-31, and pulled in 15 draw controls to Cincinnati's 13. The defense forced 16 Bearcats turnovers and GU committed 14 in the contest.
Gebhardt leads the offense with 31 points on 27 goals and four assists. She is followed by Bruno who has managed 22 goals and eight assists for 30 points as well as sophomore attacker Emily Ehle (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) posting 12 goals and a squad-high 18 assists for 30 points. Lynch has 14 goals and seven assists for 21 points, while Seibel rounds out the top five with 20 points on 15 goals and five assists.
In goal, Chomo has played a majority of the minutes with 81 saves on the season.
The Pioneers are 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in the BIG EAST. On Saturday, the squad downed Butler, 16-1, at home. Their other league win is over Connecticut, 13-5. Quintin Hoch-Bullen was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Tuesday. Hoch-Bullen earned the award after recording a team-high eight points on the week with five goals and three assists. On the season, the attacker is second on the team in goals and points, with 21 goals and 29 points, and third on the team in assists (eight).
It is the second honor of the freshman attacker's career after being named freshman of the week last week.
The Hoyas are 3-1 all-time against the Pioneers and 1-0 in Colorado. Last season, the squads split as GU won, 9-7, during the regular season, but Denver managed the 9-8 victory in the BIG EAST Championship semifinal game. The last meeting in Denver was a 12-11 Hoya victory in 2008.
