BALTIMORE - Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team's NCAA postseason run came to an end with a 10-9 overtime loss in the first found at No. 2/5 Johns Hopkins on Sunday evening. The 12th-ranked Hoyas wrap up the 2018 campaign with a 12-5 overall record, tied for the second most wins in program history.

Craig Berge (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapeua) led the Hoyas with two goals and four assists for a career-high six points. Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md./McDonogh School) added a hat trick with three goals, Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison/Mercer) tallied a pair of goals, Matt Behrens (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) chipped in a goal and an assist, while Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) notched a lone goal. Austin McDonald (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep) and Peter Tagliaferri (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) were both credited with assists as well.

In goal, Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) put together another stellar performance between the pipes. The senior netminder hauled in 11 saves on the day, including five in the third quarter, for his eighth double-digit save outing of the season. He and the Hoya defense held Johns Hopkins to a scoreless drought of over 34 minutes spanning the first through third periods.

Tagliaferri was a menace at the `X', winning 15-of-23 (.652) faceoffs on the afternoon. He, along with Stephen MacLeod (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius) were second on the team with four ground balls each while Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) led all players with five ground balls.

In the extra frame, Georgetown won the opening faceoff and got a quality look at goal but ended up turning the ball over at the end of the possession. Johns Hopkins (12-4) took advantage, calling a timeout with 1:12 remaining in the overtime period before scoring the game-winner with just 29 seconds on the clock.

Georgetown started off slow in the opening quarter, falling behind 3-0 after nearly 10 minutes of play. The Hoyas put on the pressure from there, matching JHU's three goals all within a 2:12 span. Wittenberg posted back-to-back goals, first courtesy of a Berge assist at the 4:36 mark and again unassisted at 2:53 to help the Hoyas pull within one. Carraway got in on the action just 39 seconds later, taking a Berge pass and rocketing a shot past the Hopkins keeper to knot things up at 3-3.

In the second, the Blue & Gray added another three unanswered goals while holding the Blue Jays scoreless in the frame. Berge opened the scoring at the 13:02 mark, collecting a ground ball off a deflected pass and blasting home a shot from 15 yards out to give the Hoyas their first lead of the game at 4-3. Behrens continued the scoring with the man-up unit as Berge found him waiting patiently at the doorstep following a steady stream of deliberate passes around the perimeter. Clark closed out the scoring in the frame, taking another helper from Berge at the 2:05 mark to give GU a 6-3 lead it would take into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Berge and Clark added another goal each before the Blue Jays finally broke through their scoring slump with a man-up goal with just 95 seconds remaining in the frame. The JHU goal snapped a 34:22 scoring drought and gave life to the home team heading into the final stanza, trailing Georgetown 8-4.

The vaunted Johns Hopkins offense came alive in the fourth quarter, rattling off two early goals before Clark completed his hat trick and gave the Hoyas a 9-6 lead at the 12:13 mark. Three-straight goals from the Blue Jays over a span of 3:12 knotted the score at 9-9 with 4:03 to play. Both teams had their chances down the stretch, but neither squad could find the back of the net en route to overtime.

Kyle Marr led Johns Hopkins with five goals and two assists. Shack Stanwick had one goal, the game-winner, to go with four assists.
