Baseball Looks to Carry Momentum Into Weekend Series Against Villanova

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team will continue its six-game homestand this weekend when it hosts Villanova for a three-game series at Shirley Povich Field. The weekend schedule has been altered with the forecast of rain on Saturday. The two teams will now play a doubleheader on Friday, with two nine-inning games starting at 4 p.m. The second contest will start approximately 30 minutes after game one. The series finale will be played either Saturday or Sunday, weather pending.

The Hoyas (18-24, 4-5 BIG EAST) are currently on a three-game winning streak after defeating Mount St. Mary's, 12-5, on Tuesday evening. Owen Lamon (Herndon, Va./Oakton) picked up his third win of the season and three relievers combined to give up just one hit while striking out nine over the final four innings. Offensively, Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) recorded four hits and scored three runs, while Alex Bernauer (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) had a double and a triple and drove in five RBIs for the second time this season. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) also had two hits and drove in three runs, and Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) was on base four times with a single and three walks and scored three runs.

For the season, Ryan P. Davis leads the Hoyas with a .330 (31-for-94) batting average. Ryan M. Davis is right behind him with a .316 (50-for-158) average and is also second on GU with 23 RBIs, while ranking second in the BIG EAST with 16 stolen bases. McCabe, who has started all 42 games at shortstop, is hitting .300 (48-for-160) and has a team-high 30 RBIs. He is tied with Ryan M. Davis for the team lead with 10 doubles. Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) leads the squad with a career-high three home runs.

Villanova enters the series with an 8-29 overall record and a 0-9 mark in BIG EAST play. The Wildcats snapped a 10-game losing streak with a pair of home midweek wins over La Salle and Army West Point. Villanova's offense is batting .228 as a whole and is led by Ryan Toohers who comes in with a .282 average and has team-highs of four home runs, 10 doubles and 24 RBIs. David Gulati is hitting .277 and leads the Wildcats with 41 hits, 32 runs scored and eight stolen bases. The pitching staff owns a 4.49 team ERA and opponents are batting .277 against Villanova with 17 home runs.
