WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Field Hockey Head Coach
Christy Longacre has released the schedule for the upcoming 2018 season. The Hoyas, who will take the field in Longacre's first season on the Hilltop, will play 10 of their 18 games this fall home at Cooper Field.
"We are counting down the days until August and cannot wait to get this season started," Longacre said. "We have an exciting schedule this year that will be tough, but could also be very rewarding. With some great additions and returners this fall, we are pumped to see what this team can achieve."
Following an exhibition game at VCU on August 18, the Blue & Gray will open the season with a pair of road games. For the second-consecutive year, the Hoyas will open up against Davidson, taking on the Wildcats in Davidson, North Carolina on August 24. The road trip will conclude with a matchup at Appalachian State two days later, August 26.
The squad's final game in August sees the Hoyas play their home-opener at Cooper Field, opening a three-game homestand with a contest against Sacred Heart on August 31. St. Francis (Pa.) visits the Hilltop on September 2 before the homestand wraps up on September 7 against LIU Brooklyn.
One week later, the Hoyas hit the road for a four-game road swing as they open BIG EAST play at Villanova on September 14. Georgetown steps back out of conference play for games against LaSalle (September 16) and Brown (September 23), sandwiched around a BIG EAST matchup at Quinnipiac (September 21).
The Blue & Gray will play its first home conference game when it welcomes Old Dominion to Cooper Field on September 28. A home nonconference contest against Lehigh (September 30) closes out the month of September.
BIG EAST play resumes with a road contest at Temple on October 5 before the Hoyas travel to Rutgers for an October 7 matchup. They close out the road portion of their schedule on October 12 at Liberty.
The last four games will all be played at the friendly confines of Cooper Field. Matchups against Towson (October 14) and Longwood (October 21) close out nonconference play, while Providence visits the Hilltop for a BIG EAST contest on October 19. The regular season concludes on October 26 when the Hoyas welcome defending national champions Connecticut for a Senior Day matchup.
Georgetown is coming off a 9-10 campaign in 2017, and returns 17 letterwinners from last year's squad while welcoming
six incoming freshmen.
