WASHINGTON – Georgetown University field hockey freshman goalkeeper
Ciara Weets (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary) was selected to the BIG EAST weekly Honor Roll as announced Tuesday morning. The Georgetown field hockey team is 2-0 this season with wins over Davidson (1-1) and Appalachian State (1-1).
The freshman posted back-to-back shutouts for the Hoyas in her debut weekend with eight total saves, five in the 1-0 win over Davidson and three in the 2-0 win over Appalachian State. Georgetown has not posted back-to-back shutouts in over 15 years. The strong start for the Hoyas has put them atop the BIG EAST field hockey standings with a perfect record, along with No. 1 UConn and Old Dominion after a weekend of play.
This is Weets' first-career nod to the honor roll and also Georgetown's first on the year.
The Blue & Gray will be back in action on Friday as the team takes on Sacred Heart (2-0) at Cooper Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Live stats and live streaming will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
